Iran hangs three people in public in Lorestan

Despite internal opposition and international protests, the Iranian regime still continues to issue and carry out death sentence. This is while many believe that the number of executions is higher than the figures officially announced by the government.

According to reports, three people were hanged in public today in the town of Aznay in Lorestan. (Pezhak TV Website – Aug. 11, 2010)

 

Political prisoner denied treatment while in critical condition

Political prisoner Reza Jushan has been suffering from a serious eye problem for more than one week. His eyes are red and very painful and constantly irritated which has also seriously impaired his vision.

Jushan told a prison guard that he was going blind and asked why he was not being taken to the infirmary. The guard told him that he had to wait two months for his turn in the infirmary.

Reza Jushan has been transferred to secondary cellblock 17 in cellblock 6 of Gohardasht Prison from more than 4 months ago and is kept in isolation and has been banned from calling or seeing his family in this time.

One of the head interrogators of the Intelligence Agency named Mohebi ordered the transfer of this political prisoner where he is held incommunicado.

This section is used to put pressure on prisoners. This torturer issues arrest warrants for student, labor, and political activists, dervishes and those who participated in the post-election protests. He also interrogates and physically and mentally tortures detainees.

Jushan, 25, was arrested on December 1, 2009 after agents of the Intelligence Agency raided his home. He was taken to a solitary cell in the Sepah cellblock and after two months was taken to cellblock 4. Intelligence Agents once again raided the home of this family on December 7 and arrested his mother, Zahra Asadpour Gorji. She was also taken to the Sepah Cellblock and after weeks of interrogations and physical and mental torture, was transferred to Gohardasht Prison’s female cellblock. Gorji and her daughter Fatemeh Jushan were arrested before this for visiting their family members in Camp Ashraf in Iraq and were detained for 16 months in Gohardasht Prison. They were released after serving their prison term. Gorji and her son were sentenced to one year of prison to be served in Zanjan Prison and four years of exile in the Qeilar Village in Zanjan. Female political prisoner kept under hard conditions in Evin Prison

According to reports, political prisoners Elmira (Farah) Vazehan who was arrested after Ashura events is held in an undetermined state and under hard conditions in the female cellblock in Evin Prison. 

She was arrested after widespread popular protests on Ashura (Dec. 27, 2009) by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence in her home along with her two children. She was taken to a secret Ministry of intelligence detention center where she was under constant torture for one month. She was interrogated three times in one month for several hours. This political prisoner was physically and mentally tortured in her interrogations. This detention center had dark cold corridors and lacked minimum facilities. The moans and cries of other prisoner who were being tortured could be heard day and night in this secret detention center.

After 30 days of torture, she was taken to a solitary cell in cellblock 209 in Evin prison where she was interrogated by an intelligence agent nicknamed Alavi. He was also in charge of interrogating her two children.

Her daughter has lymph cancer and is in critical condition. But agents of the Ministry of Intelligence detained her for a few days and interrogated and tortured her to force her to make confessions against her mother. They were forced to release her because of her deteriorating condition.

Farah Vazehan was banned from calling her family while in the secret detention center. Even when she was taken to cellblock 209 where she shared a cell with other prisoners she was still banned from contacting her family. This is while her daughter was very sick and Vazehan desperately needed to known about her condition.

She is currently detained in the female cellblock in Evin Prison and is still kept in an undetermined state after 8 months. She has been charged with taking pictures and films of protests and having communications with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran…

Notably, Farah Vazehan’s uncle was hanged in the 80’s in prison and a number of her other family members including her sister were arrested and violently tortured in the arrests made in the 80’s. (Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran – Aug. 11, 2010)

 

Iran sentences labor leader to another year of prison

Mansour Osalu who was trialed while his lawyer was absent was sentenced to another year of prison which will be carried out after the end of his current prison term.

According to reports, Mansour Osalu, the head of the Union of Workers of the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company was tried by the first branch of the Karaj Revolutionary Court.

He was denied a lawyer in the trial and his lawyers were not informed that their client was even taken to court.

Osalu is suffering from serious illnesses such as heart problems, back pain and eye problems and a legal doctor has state three times that he cannot tolerate incarceration and according to the law, he must be released. (Jaras Website – Aug. 11, 2010)
